KOTA SAMARAHAN, July 16: Thousands of Samarahan folk flocked Summer Mall shopping centre here as they welcomed the Sarawak Merdeka Convoy led by the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday (July 15).
Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos said this signified that the Samarahan people have activated their ‘Merdeka’ mood as they participate in the 60th anniversary of the Sarawak Independence celebration.
“When it comes to public gatherings, Samarahan people are on top; (you) cannot beat them on that.
“Thanks to the good job by the Samarahan Resident Office, thousands flocked to Summer Mall yesterday (July 15) to meet the Sarawak Merdeka Convoy from Serian led by Premier.
“It was a really happy day; really joyful despite the heat; exciting and simply happy,” he said in a statement today.
Minos said he initially thought the occasion would be modest, but it turned out to be a huge one, with people coming from Simunjan, Sebuyau, Sadong Jaya, Asajaya, and Kota Samarahan. — DayakDaily
