KUCHING, Oct 5: This year’s State-Level Youth Day celebration at Dataran Perayaan in Petra Jaya here, which is scheduled to kick off on Oct 19 until Oct 22 is expected to attract up to 10,000 people.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the celebration themed ‘Youth, Leaders of the Future’ will be officiated by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Oct 22.

“The objective of the event is to celebrate the contribution and involvement of youth in State development.

“It also aims to increase the spirit of cooperation and unity among the youth and youth organisations throughout the State,” he told a press conference at his Ministry in Bangunan Baitulmakmur II today.

Abdul Karim believes this year’s celebration is set to be a big one after two years of Covid-19 disruption and restriction.

The last time the celebration took place was in May 2020 in Asajaya but carried out on a small scale with limitations and restrictions in compliance with the standard operating procedures issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

Some 2,000 youths from schools, higher education institutions and youth and sports organisations are expected to participate in the celebration.

With 18 programmes have been planned for the four-days celebration, the highlights include the State Youth Award for individual man and woman as well as State Youth Association Award with a total prize worth RM27,000.

Other interesting programmes that the public should not miss include Youth Got Talent, Youth Showcase, Nite Fun Ride, Youth Camp (Scout and Girl Guide), a street market featuring Youth Kitchen and Entrepreneur, E-Sport, extreme sport game demonstration, BMX exhibition, auto show and various sports and fitness activities. — DayakDaily
