KUCHING, Nov 14: Incumbent for Mambong Datuk Dr Jerip Susil predicts the seat will see a multi-cornered contest in the coming State election.

According to him, there is a likelihood that the Mambong seat will be contested by candidates from different political parties as well as independent candidates.

“For this election, I predict that there could be four, five, six or even more (candidates) to contest.

“There will candidates from Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Pakatan Harapan (PH) and independent candidate…it will like ‘Gawai’. They will come to say this and say that, but the more the merrier,” Dr Jerip said today.

Dr Jerip, who is Assistant Minister of Transport, and widely-tipped to defend the seat for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), said this after flagging off the ‘Pacakan Bendera GPS’ convoy for Mambong constituency, at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Mambong branch office at Kota Padawan.

Dr Jerip expressed his belief that voters in the area were smart enough to chose the right elected representative.

“Voters (in Mambong) are very smart and discerning… they know who gives them development and other assistance and also assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic, so come the election, they (voters) will reciprocate,” he said.

According to Dr Jerip, there were more than 19,000 voters in Mambong, and he expected about 75 per cent of them to turn out for this election.

Dr Jerip is also keeping close to his chest the strategies and approaches by his party’s election machinery during the campaign period, in view of the new norms during the election in the wake of Covid-19.

At the event, representatives from other GPS component parties were also present to erect GPS flags at strategic locations in nine zones. — DayakDaily
