Thai restaurant cook fined RM5,500 for property damage, death threats against employer

KUCHING, Aug 9: A Thai national was fined RM5,500 or in default seven months in prison after pleading guilty to charges of damaging property and threatening to kill his employer.

Kiatisak Patma, 53, who works at a Thai restaurant in Kuching, admitted to the two charges brought against him under Section 427 and Section 506 of the Penal Code.

For the first charge of committing mischief by damaging property, Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali ordered the accused to pay a fine of RM2,000 or face three months in prison.

For the second charge of criminal intimidation with the intent to cause death, the magistrate imposed a fine of RM3,500 or five months in prison.

Both offenses were committed at around 9.40pm on Aug 6 at a Thai restaurant located on Jalan Wan Alwi.

According to the case details, the accused, who was under the influence of alcohol, threatened to kill his employer, a 69-year-old man.

This caused the employer significant trauma and fear.

In addition, the accused went on a rampage, kicking and breaking a door at the restaurant and punching a vanity mirror, causing property damage estimated at RM700.

A police report was lodged, and the accused was arrested a few hours later, around 2am.

At the time of the arrest, he was still aggressive and under the influence of alcohol but calmed down after being persuaded.
