Temenggong Mambu Ikom, older brother of William Mawan, dies aged 77

KUCHING, Sept 11: Temenggong Mambu Ikom has passed away yesterday morning (Sept 10) at Pusat Jantung Samarahan due to a stroke.

His passing was confirmed by his daughter Winnie Mambu when contacted today.

The Iban community leader died at the age of 77, at around 10am.


His funeral wake will be held at Simpang Rh George Futsal Court, Nansang in Pakan on the night of Sept 13, 2021.

The deceased will be buried in Pendam Memorial Hill Bukit Perabun, Saratok on Sept 14, 2021.

Mambu was born on Sept 16, 1943. He married his wife Sanga Galang in 1958 and had six children.

Mambu was also an elder brother of Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.

During his lifetime, he was awarded the Bentera Bintang Sarawak (BBS) and Ahli Bintang Sarawak (ABS) and was highly respected for his active role in advocating Iban customs and traditions.

The late Mambu was appointed as Temenggong on Nov 1, 2017. Prior to that, he was a Tuai Rumah from 1973 to 2009, Penghulu (2002 to 2006) and Pemanca (2006 to 2017). – DayakDaily
