BELAGA, July 14: The Sarawak government has planned to develop a telecommunication (telco) tower in the Bakun Lake area as an effort to provide telecommunications coverage to the longhouse residents there.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Telecommunication) Datuk Liwan Lagang said the plan will be implemented in phases, thus requesting the residents to be patient.

He also suggested that the tower site be located not far from the longhouse to avoid vandalism cases in the facility, which would cause problems for the residents.

He said this when speaking at the opening ceremony of the SABERKAS Prihatin Programme held at Uma Bato Bagi, Long Kebuho, Belaga, on Thursday (July 11).

Touching on the problem of solar energy batteries under the Sarawak Rural Alternative Electricity Supply Scheme (SARES) program, Liwan, who is the Belaga assemblyman, said the government has made provisions to replace batteries in all SARES throughout Sarawak.

ā€œHowever, since it involves a large allocation, it will be implemented according to priority.

ā€œIt is already planned to replace all SARES batteries in the Belaga area with new batteries,ā€ he said. ā€” DayakDaily
