KUCHING, Apr 4: Telang Usan Assemblyman Dennis Ngau has secured helicopter services to send food to 32 longhouses in Ulu Baram and Ulu Tinjar areas on April 7 (Tuesday).

He said the army had agreed to use the Nuri helicopter to send food items to families affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO) to these remote areas.

“After the Gabungan Parti Sarawak government decided to allocate RM200,000 per constituency, we are now racing against time to distribute food items to as many families as possible during this MCO period in my vast jurisdiction,” he told DayakDaily today.

He said he secured the service of the army’s helicopter due to the remoteness of the 32 longhouses.

“Most of these longhouses were reachable by timber roads before but due to the closure of many camps, now many of these longhouses are no longer accessible. Many are now only reachable by river transport. Thus, we need the helicopter service to send the food to them,” he said.

So far he has distributed food items to 576 families out of the estimated 4,500 families in Telang Usan.

Among the food items are rice, sugar, salt, biscuits and noodles.

Meanwhile, this morning Kelab Belia Kampung Uma Akeh, led by its chairman Spanski Steven distributed food items to 19 families in the village.

Spanski, who is also a Youth Parliamentary member said he will assist Dennis to distribute the food items to the needy in Telang Usan.

“We will continue to assist those whose livelihoods have been affected by the MCO, especially daily paid workers,” he said.

He thanked the police for giving his team the permit permission to distribute the basic items. —DayakDaily
