KUCHING, Sept 24: Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) recently held a two-day Edu:Pico Workshop for students from eight secondary schools under the Baram District Education Office (PPD Baram), designed to strengthen digital skills and spark greater interest in STEM among rural youth.
TEGAS Board of Trustees chairman Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the programme underscores TEGAS’ commitment to bridging the digital divide for rural students.
“By giving them direct exposure to technology and programming, such opportunities build confidence and unlock their potential to succeed.
“This initiative is also in line with Sarawak’s aspiration towards a digital economy, where early exposure to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) serves as a vital foundation in nurturing the next generation of innovators,” he said in a media release on Tuesday (Sept 23).
During the workshop, participants were introduced to Python programming and the Edu:Pico kit through a series of interactive activities. They learned the basics of coding, explored Edu:Pico components, and took on a hands-on challenge to construct a rotating wheel using cardboard and PVC pipes.
The project encouraged students to test the wheel’s speed with their own coding, deepening their engagement with STEM through practical application.
The Edu:Pico Workshop forms part of TEGAS’ #DigitalInnovation4All initiative, which aims to cultivate digitally literate and innovative youth while preparing Sarawak’s younger generation to thrive in an increasingly digital future. — DayakDaily
