KUCHING, Jan 27: A Magistrate’s Court today ordered a 15-year-old boy to be sent to the Henry Gurney School in Puncak Borneo for three years, following his guilty plea to a charge of statutory rape that resulted in the pregnancy of a 14-year-old girl.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan, presiding over the case for a review of the defendant’s social report, also instructed the boy’s parents or guardians to visit him monthly during his time at the reform school.
The teenager had previously admitted guilt under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, an offence that carries a potential maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and caning.
According to the case facts presented in court, the defendant and the victim were in a relationship. Both parties consented to sexual intercourse, which took place one night in Feb 2025 at a house on Jalan Stampin Baru. The court heard that the boy had, in fact, been living at the victim’s residence since that time.
Despite requests from the girl’s family for him to leave, the defendant reportedly refused due to facing problems within his own family. He eventually moved out in early Aug 2025.
That same month, it was discovered the victim was pregnant. The facts state the defendant refused to take responsibility and pressured the girl to terminate the pregnancy.
The victim subsequently confided in her aunt, who took her to a nearby clinic. A medical examination confirmed she was six months pregnant.
Following the medical confirmation, the victim filed a police report, which led to the defendant’s arrest.
The prosecution in today’s hearing was conducted by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin. The defendant was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
