Teen sentenced to 3 years at Henry Gurney School for raping 11-year-old girl

KUCHING, June 11: A 15-year-old boy has been sentenced to three years at Henry Gurney School by the Magistrate’s Court today for the rape of an 11-year-old girl.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi handed down the sentence after reviewing a probation report from the Social Welfare Department regarding the teenager.

The boy pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which stipulates a maximum prison term of 20 years and caning upon conviction.

The incident occurred at approximately 1.30pm on Dec 17, 2023, at a staircase in a well-known shopping mall in the city.

According to the case facts, the victim disclosed to her mother on Dec 20, 2023, around 9pm, that she had engaged in sexual intercourse with the accused.

The mother then lodged a police report, leading to the boy’s arrest on Dec 21, 2023.

Investigations confirmed that the boy had sexual relations with the 11-year-old girl on the day in question. A medical examination revealed old tears in the victim’s genital area.

It is reported that the two were in a consensual relationship.

The prosecution was led by Officer ASP Arman Ibrahim, while the accused was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
