KUCHING, Jan 22: A 15-year-old male was ordered by a Magistrate’s Court here to be placed in Henry Gurney School for a period of three years, after he pleaded guilty to raping a 14-year-old girl, who subsequently became pregnant.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali issued the sentence after reviewing a social inquiry report and considering recommendations from a social welfare officer, alongside arguments presented by the prosecution.
The accused had earlier admitted guilt to a charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a potential penalty of up to 20 years imprisonment and caning upon conviction.
According to the charge, the offence occurred between late April and early May 2025 at a public recreation park along Jalan Padungan in this city.
Case facts revealed that the victim’s father brought his daughter to a private hospital on December 8, 2025, after she complained of stomach pain. A urine test confirmed the girl was 14 weeks and four days pregnant.
She was subsequently referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further management, and a police report was filed, leading to the arrest of the accused the following day, on December 9, 2025.
Investigations established that both the victim and the accused admitted to having had sexual intercourse at the said recreation park within the stated timeframe. Further inquiries found the victim stated this was her first sexual experience and that the accused was her sole sexual partner.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly. The accused was not represented by legal counsel during the proceedings. — DayakDaily
