KUCHING, Sept 25: A 16-year-old girl has been sentenced to three years at the Miri Tunas Bakti School after being found guilty of drug abuse involving ketamine.

The sentence was handed down today by Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan, who considered a probation report prepared by the Social Welfare Department.

The teenager had pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries corresponding punishment under the same provision.

She was arrested during a police raid conducted by the Kuching District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at around 3.05am on May 19.

An initial urine test returned positive for drugs, and further analysis by the Sarawak General Hospital’s Pathology Department confirmed the presence of ketamine.

In addition to the reform school order, the court directed that she be placed under the supervision of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) for one year upon completing her sentence.

Mason also instructed her parents to visit her at least once every two months during her stay.

It was reported that the teenager had been working as a nightclub waitress prior to her arrest. — DayakDaily
