KUCHING, Feb 12: A teenage girl, found sound asleep, was rescued from smoke-filled home after unmonitored cooking caught on fire this morning at Taman Orchidwood, Matang.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received an emergency call on the situation at 8.41am and immediately dispatched firefighters from the Petra Jaya fire station to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team encountered a locked door and had to cut the padlock to gain entry into the second-floor residence.
Inside, they found the source of the smoke was from a minor fire in the kitchen caused by unattended cooking.
While assessing the situation, firefighters found a teenage girl sleeping in one of the rooms.
They quickly guided her to safety before extinguishing the fire and ventilating the kitchen to clear the smoke.
Fortunately, the fire did not cause any structural damage to the house.
After ensuring that the situation was under control and the premises were safe, the team returned to the fire station at 9.18am. – DayakDaily
