‘Team Rimbawan’ wins Eco-Race contest

BINTULU, March 25: University Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB)’s ‘Team Rimbawan’ won the Eco-Race Competition organised by Sarawak Forest Department (SFD) recently.

Eight teams participated in the competition. The teams comprised staff and students of UPMKB as well as staff from SFD, Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) and forestry and environmental agencies in the state.

The competition was organised in conjunction with the state-level International Forest Day Celebration 2019.

It was held at UPMKB, involving challenges such as spruce seedlings, tree height and diameter measuring, pond fishing, coconut bowling, kayaking and log core pillar sawing. Each challenge has a quiz component.

SFD director Hamden Mohammad officiated at the closing-cum-presentation ceremony.

The event was also attended by SFD deputy director Jack Liam and Prof Madya Dr Ong Kian Huat from UPMKB. — DayakDaily
