Team Haolian’s ‘Elite Seven’ from S’wak break personal limits in Taipei Marathon, State record remains intact

KUCHING, Dec 21: Several members of Team Haolian’s ‘Elite Seven’ recorded personal bests at the Taipei Marathon today, but the Sarawak marathon record remains unbroken.

Andy Yeo led the team, completing the 42.195km course in 2:42:04. Other runners who set new personal records include Dr Owen Tan (2:53:50), Sunny Jong (2:54:49), Nicholas Andrew Ling (3:10:34), Jeremy Yeo (3:27:15), Cindy Lim (3:29:19), and Alpha Lim (3:43:20), according to Hock Seng Lee’s (HSL) Facebook post.

The Sarawak marathon record continues to be held by Mohd Jironi Riduan, the Miri Sukma coach, who ran 2:39:57 at the 2016 Kuala Lumpur Marathon.

HSL, which supports the team, commended the athletes for their discipline and dedication, saying their performance demonstrates the growing presence of Sarawak runners on the international stage.

According to World Athletics, Mohd Jironi is an accomplished athlete who has participated in international competitions, including the SEA Games, Asian Championship, and Universiade (now known as the FISU World University Games). — DayakDaily
