SONG, Jan 12: A school teaching assistant has been arrested for allegedly throwing a wooden chair, hitting a seven-year-old girl in the head.
The 7pm incident took place during a night study session at a primary school in Nanga Nansang, Terkalit, here on Wednesday.
Song district police chief, DSP Rowney Michael Jalak, said the suspect, 35, was supervising the night classes and was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
“The suspect noticed that the students were making noises. He told them to be quiet but the students just ignored him,” he said today.
Rowney said the suspect got angry and unable to control his emotions, he took a chair and threw it at the students, which hit one of them.
He added that the victim, who suffered a lump on her head, went back to her grandfather’s house two days later.
“The incident was related by the victim to her grandfather (complainant) after the victim returned from the hostel on Friday,” he explained.
Rowney said the complainant then took the victim to the Song Health Clinic for treatment before making a police report on the same day.
“Based on information, the police have successfully detained the suspect to assist in further investigation,” he added. — DayakDaily
