Teachers’ quarters in Lubok Antu partially destroyed in morning fire

LUBOK ANTU, Feb 27: Quick action by a teacher and father saved two men after fire erupted at a teachers’ quarters in SK Batang Ai, today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) operation center in a press statement said that they received a call regarding the incident at 11.29 am, and deployed a team of seven firefighters led by PpgB Vincent Baling Yabi, together with PBK II Tony Morni, from Bomba Betong.

The department revealed that the flames, however, were successfully extinguished by members of the public, preventing it from spreading to other structures nearby.


According to the statement, the quick reaction by a staff teacher, and a father of a pre-school student, saved the lives of a senior citizen, 70, as well as a 35-year-old man with disabilities who were inside the burning quarters.

“The flame was extinguished using 13 dry powder-based fire extinguisher and after inspection, a total of 50 per cent of the structure, including one of the bedrooms inside the quarters was destroyed in the incident,” the statement added.

A total of 3 firefighters from Bomba Lubok antu was also involved in the operation.—DayakDaily.
