KUCHING, Mar 1: A 39-year-old teacher was arrested in Bintangor after allegedly committing a sexual offence against a female student, following a police report lodged by the victim’s mother.

According to a TVS news report, Meradong District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Tansli Mering confirmed the arrest when contacted yesterday (Feb 28).

He said the report was lodged after the victim’s mother alleged that her daughter had been subjected to immoral acts.

“The case came to light after the student failed to attend school as usual. Prior to that, the school had conducted an internal investigation,” he said.

He added that information gathered during the internal probe led the school to inform the victim’s family, prompting the police report for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Tansli advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could cause misunderstanding or interfere with police investigations. — DayakDaily
