KUCHING, Dec 16: 11-year-old vocalist Taylor Louise made Sarawak proud once again by becoming the youngest Sarawakian to have performed at the prestigious Studio Opéra Bastille in Paris on Dec 12.
According to a press release, Taylor’s performance coincided with her recognition at the Paris International Music Competition – Grand Prize Virtuoso, where she received two major honours, placing her among the most promising young performers at the international level.
At the competition, Taylor was awarded the Exceptional Young Talent Special Prize, making her the first Sarawakian to receive the honour. She also emerged as First Prize winner in the Pop Category (ages 10–12), competing against young talents from around the world.
“During her appearance at the Studio Opéra Bastille, Taylor performed ‘From the Start’ by Laufey, a jazz-pop piece that allowed her to showcase both emotional depth and vocal control.
“Her performance drew positive responses from organisers and audience members, with many describing her as one of the standout and most well-received performers of the night,” said the press release.
Taylor’s journey to Paris followed her strong results at the competition, where judges noted her musical expression, confidence and maturity beyond her years.
Speaking after the event, Taylor shared her appreciation for those who have supported her musical journey.
“I am very thankful to my parents, my family, my coach, and everyone who has supported me. I am proud to represent Sarawak and Malaysia,” she said.
Taylor’s success overseas highlights the potential of Sarawak’s young talents and serves as an encouragement to children across the State to pursue their dreams, showing that dedication and support can open doors far beyond home. — DayakDaily
