KUCHING, Nov 3: Eric Tay Tze Kok was named as Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) candidate to take on Democratic Action Party (DAP) incumbent Dr Kelvin Yii in the opposition stronghold of Bandar Kuching in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Tay’s candidacy was announced by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg this morning.
Speaking to reporters at PBB headquarters, Tay said: “I am deeply honoured to be named as the candidate for SUPP. I will do my best.
“Bandar Kuching has always been a difficult seat but I believe if we all work together for the future of Sarawakians (we can do it). Let’s do it and fight to win back the seat.”
Tay, who is also SUPP Kuching youth chief said he is determined to recapture the Bandar Kuching seat, which has been held by DAP since 2004.
He will be facing incumbent Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen who defended the seat for his second term in GE14 by defeating SUPP candidate Kho Teck Wan. — DayakDaily
