Tasik Biru rep proposes establishing Hakka community village in Bau to boost tourism, economy

KUCHING, Aug 9: Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep has proposed the establishment of a Hakka community village in Bau.

According to a report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) yesterday (Aug 8), Henry, who is also Deputy Minister for Transport Sarawak (Riverine and Maritime), says it will help to boost the tourism sector in the district.

He said that during his recent visit to a Hakka village in China, he was attracted to the uniqueness of their culture and took the initiative to form one (Hakka village) in Bau.

Henry said this during the ‘Bau Cultural Night’ celebration in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China held at the Bau Civic Centre on Aug 7.

He added that the efforts will also help to spur the local economy while at the same time promoting local cultures. — DayakDaily
