KUCHING, April 11: Bau may have started with gold mining, but now there is a ‘new gold’, which is Greater Bau 2030, that will drive development growth in the district by 2030.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Assistant Minister of Transport Dato Henry Harry Jinep stated that the ‘Greater Bau’ initiatives aim to develop various sectors in the district.

“The sectors involved are tourism and socio-economy and accelerating development in Bau town and the surrounding villages,” he said.

Henry said this during an appreciation ceremony for Chinese community leaders in the Tasik Biru constituency at the Bau Civic Centre on Sunday (April 10).

Meanwhile, Henry, who is also the Tasik Biru assemblyman, said Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) victory in the constituency during the 12th Sarawak Election was a success due to the support of the Chinese community as well as other races in the area.

He went on to say that the victory would encourage him and his team to work harder to continue developing the district.

“To achieve this, harmony between communities, peace, and unity will be the key,” he said.

Also present at the event were Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Bau branch chairman Datuk Wilfred Rata Nissom and political secretaries to the Premier of Sarawak, John Nyigor and Charles Chad Bissom. — DayakDaily
