KUCHING, Sept 8: Tasik Biru Festival is returning this year with a focus on sustainability of tourism-based festivals as a new source of economic activity for the Bau area.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport Dato Henry Harry Jinep, who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman, the festival will be held from Sept 22 to Oct 2.

“Themed “Unique Watersport Bring Togetherness”, the festival will be launched as an official tourism event in Bau.

“This is in line with the visions of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia’s “Malaysia–Culturally Rich Sustainable Destination” and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts’ “Advancing Sarawak’s Tourism, Arts and Culture”, through 6 main clusters, namely, local community culture, performing arts, tourism products, Bau Kitchen, festivals and services for the people,” he said at a press conference held at Tasik Biru Food Village today.

Henry said about 60,000 visitors are expected throughout the 11-day festival.

He also said the festival activities will not be concentrated in Tasik Biru only and will be spread out to Seniawan and Paku too.

“We will also launch the opening of Tasik Biru Suspension Bridge during the festival. Hopefully bridge construction will be completed by the end of this month,” he added. — DayakDaily
