LUNDU, Nov 5: Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu has instructed the local council to look into the cemetery in Kampung Stunggang Dayak, here, which has been submerged in water for the past week.

The Tanjung Datu assemblywoman immediately responded to the matter in DayakDaily’s Facebook posting of the article that was reported yesterday.

“I have just spoken to Cr Benjamin and he will take necessary actions on my behalf by tomorrow (Nov 5),” she said when commenting on the article.

Jamilah thanked the residents for highlighting the issue and said that she had asked Lundu District councillor Benjamin Gersit to look into the matter as soon as possible.

Residents of Kampung Stunggang Dayak had called on the authorities for help regarding the submerged cemetery, which was discovered by relatives who were visiting the graves of their loved ones in light of All Souls’ Day last weekend.

The issue was highlighted to the media by a resident Sidi Munan, who is also Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) chairman.

Sidi said the cemetery built behind Christ Church at Stunggang Dayak in 1986 had never experienced such incident and he sought the right authority to look into the matter.

“We hope the relevant authorities can help in this matter as the locals do not know what to do,” he told DayakDaily when contacted.

The cemetery is located at KM80 of the Kuching-Lundu road along the Pan Borneo Highway. — DayakDaily
