BINTULU, Oct 16: The long-delayed Medan Jaya flyover project, which has reached 58 per cent completion, must be expedited as its progress has been hampered primarily by the relocation of underground utility cables.
In a TVS news, Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming stressed that timely completion is vital for the safety and convenience of local residents.
He said the project, which has been stalled since 2021, has caused various inconveniences to road users, and his office has been actively coordinating with the Public Works Department (JKR) and the contractor to ensure the revised schedule is adhered to.
“This project has been delayed for far too long, and I understand the frustrations of the people in this area.
“We are in constant communication with JKR Bintulu and the contractor to ensure work continues smoothly. We hope the contractor will give more focus and commitment so the project can be completed as soon as possible,” he said.
Pang made the remarks after inspecting the project site with advisor in the Sarawak Premier’s Office (Rural Project and Programme Monitoring) Dato Sri Rohani Abdul Karim and officials from JKR Sarawak on Wednesday (Oct 15).
He further emphasised the importance of improving safety features at the construction site, especially at night, following several accident incidents previously reported in the area. — DayakDaily
