KUCHING, March 23: The establishment of Rascom Development Agency (Rasda) will empower agricultural sector in Sarawak to reduce reliability on import of food including fodder such as corn from foreign countries.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang said there are plans to plant crops that yield short, medium and long-term results through Rasda.

ā€œWe have a lot of land to develop, the only problem is that there is land under Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation’s (Salcra) Provisional Lease (PL).

ā€œHowever, the land has not been developed by Salcra for a long time, particularly areas in Sekuau, Sungai Tau and Sungai Arip in Selangau, including some land in Dijih area that has been given PL to the company which has become an issue for us,ā€ said Gira in his speech during the Mini Lab Discussion for Rasda areas under Tamin constituency held in Selangau yesterday (March 22).

He said the matter will be brought up and discuss during the lab programme.

He added, Rasda also focuses on plans to provide infrastructure facilities, especially road connectivity for the entire area. ā€” DayakDaily
