KUCHING, Nov 12: Residents of Sebintek, Sibu have been left without running water for several months despite existing pipe infrastructure, prompting Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang to demand urgent intervention from relevant water authorities.
Gira said repeated complaints from affected households and multiple reports submitted to the responsible agency had yet to yield results, leaving families and public facilities struggling to cope.
“The situation in Sebintek is unacceptable. Water is a basic necessity, and the continued disruption has impacted not only homes but also essential facilities such as the local school and community hall,” he said in a recent statement.
Gira said that the water shortage has disrupted daily life and raised health and safety concerns, particularly among children and the elderly.
“I have raised this matter multiple times, yet no concrete solution has been delivered. I urge the authorities to act swiftly and restore water supply to the area,” he added.
He called for an immediate technical assessment to ensure that the existing infrastructure is repaired and fully functional so that water can reach all affected premises without further delay, stressing that the issue is not merely an inconvenience but a matter of dignity and public health.
“For further information or to report ongoing issues, local residents may contact the N.59 Tamin Service Centre,” read the statement. — DayakDaily
