Taman Samarindah flood mitigation project to start this year, to end long-running flood woes

KOTA SAMARAHAN, Jan 28: Flood woes in Taman Samarindah here are expected to end with the completion of a flood mitigation project that will begin this year.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim said the flood mitigation project costing RM49.3 million is expected to be completed within 48 months once the contractor has been appointed.

The project involves the construction of two main drainage ditches, namely the drainage ditch leading to Sungai Keranji and the drainage ditch leading to Sungai Entingan.


“I hope that this project will be implemented as soon as possible to resolve the flood problem in the Taman Samarindah area,” he said after attending a dialogue session on the matter at Taman Samarindah Hall on Friday (Jan 26).

Also present were Kota Samarahan Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) divisional engineer Alsyarossi Safiee and Wahba Sdn Bhd consultant engineer Michael Chang. — DayakDaily
