KUCHING, June 15: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) director Mohamed Khaidir Abang reveals that as of today (June 15), the work progress on the 99-metre flagpole project, the tallest in the country, is 66.97 per cent completed and 3.5 per cent ahead of schedule.
Mohamed Khaidir said that all sections of the flagpole project have been erected, with the structure visible from the Kuching Waterfront and its surrounding areas.
“The targeted completion date is, however, still Nov 30,” he told DayakDaily over WhatsApp today.
Privately funded, the RM28 million flagpole project built between the State Assembly Building (DUN) and Fort Margherita will be a symbol of sovereignty, patriotism, unity and pride for the people of Sarawak once completed, the State government has said.
The tallest landmark in the State and Malaysia can be seen from several viewpoints and will have multiple entry points for visitors.
It is slated to be a tourist attraction for Kuching city as the area also accommodates a Traditional English Tea House, cascading fountain, a hanging garden, and the nearby Fort Margherita.
Once completed, the flagpole will hoist the Sarawak flag measuring 25 by 12.5-metres square in size.
The project is implemented by DBKU, while the contractor conducting the building work is KKB Engineering Berhad. — DayakDaily
