KUCHING, April 14: Tabung Haji (TH) paid RM2,036,294.37 in zakat (tithes) for the financial year ending (FYE) 2021 to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak.

The handover was witnessed by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a simple ceremony held at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

The zakat was handed over by TH Group managing director and chief executive officer Dato’ Sri Amrin Awaluddin to Sarawak Islamic Council president Datu Misnu Taha who represented Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak.

Amrin in a statement said the payment is part of TH’s responsibility as a concerned Islamic organisation with the aim of empowering Islamic finance and the socio-economic development of the ‘ummah’ for the benefit of the ‘asnaf’ (those eligible to receive tithes).

He added TH hopes that the zakat payment can be utilised by Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak towards the sustainability of zakat programmes designed in the State to ensure economic sustainability of the ‘asnaf’ group.

This year, TH also allocated RM28.8 million to implement corporate social responsibility programmes that have a positive impact on ‘asnaf’, including the ‘Ehsan’ Programme which provides financial assistance for the ‘asnaf’ in need such as senior citizens, single parents and individuals with special needs (OKU). — DayakDaily
