KUCHING, May 27: Ta Kiong Supermarket, Aeon Wellness, Big Apple Donut, Toys “R” Us, Daiso and Coach were among tenants at tHe Spring Shopping Mall which have recorded Covid-19 cases in the past several days.

The Management of the shopping mall said Toys “R” Us and Daiso each registered two cases while the rest reported one case each before today, following the detection of 14 infections among tHe Spring’s security team on May 19.

“The Management initiated a temporary mall closure on May 19 for total disinfection. We have always and will continue to practise daily deep cleaning and sanitisation in the mall.

“Today, May 27, we worked with the Ministry of Health (KKM) to conduct an Active Case Detection (ACD) at the mall’s second floor for all the employees and the retailers of the mall from 3pm until 8pm.

“We shall be informed of the results from today’s ACD in a few days,” it said in a statement today.

The Management was responding to earlier news reports today revealing that more than 40 workers at the shopping mall had tested positive for Covid-19 as of to-date.

“We were surprised and saddened to hear that there have been more than 40 workers at tHe Spring that were tested positive.

“As far as we were informed by the Ministry of Health, to date, 14 employees of The Spring Shopping Mall’s Security Team were tested positive. All of those infected and their close contacts were quarantined since May 19 with the last positive case reported on May 22,” it added.

Following the urgent ACD this afternoon, the shopping mall was closed down under the instruction of KKM starting today until June 9.

According to a report by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, the Simpang Tiga Cluster which involved a shopping mall has accumulated a total of 45 cases with 35 of them active as of this day. — DayakDaily
