SWP to contest 7 seats in PRN12, acting president to vie for Tamin seat

KUCHING, Aug 20: Sarawak Workers’ Party (SWP) will contest seven seats in the upcoming 12th Sarawak State Election (PRN12).

Its acting president Engga Unchat in a statement yesterday revealed he will contest in the Tamin constituency.

“I myself will lead SWP into the (state) election and contest the Tamin seat.

“(Candidates for) the rest of the seats will be announced at the right time near to the election,” Engga disclosed, claiming that SWP has 4,000 members in the Tamin constituency.

Earlier this year, SWP had in principle formed an alliance with other locally based political groups namely Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB), Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi), Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) and Sarawak Independence Alliance (SIA) to contest in PRN12 under a new alliance called Gabungan Anak Sarawak (Gasak).

Gasak is currently awaiting approval from the Registry of Societies Malaysia (RoS) to be a registered political party.

Gasak has announced that its protem president Bobby William will contest for the Senadin seat while chairwoman Lina Soo who is also Aspirasi president will be standing for the Padungan seat.

Meanwhile its protem secretary Buln Ribos will contest in Serembu while protem committee member Fong Pau Teck will stand for the Pujut seat.

Apart from that, Soo had announced that local activists Leong Shaow Tung, Chang Chee Hiong and Tan Kok Chiang will stand for election for the Batu Lintang, Pending and Kota Sentosa seats respectively. — DayakDaily
