KUCHING, Oct 29: Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak is set to get a new research-focused campus, with the Sarawak government allocating 10 acres of land for the development.
Speaking at the university’s 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner here on Tuesday (Oct 28), Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that the initiative aims to strengthen research capabilities and nurture a highly skilled workforce to drive Sarawak’s future industries.
“The new campus will support Sarawak’s strategic growth in sectors such as green energy, semiconductors, petrochemicals, and materials science.
“The State government is committed to equipping the facility with advanced technology, enabling Sarawak to maximise its own resources through innovation and the development of local expertise,” he said.
The gala also celebrated exceptional contributors within the Swinburne community, with Chan Tyng Tyng receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award and Christopher Tan Aik Wei honoured with the Distinguished Young Alumni Award.
Long service awards were also presented to staff members in recognition of their dedication.— DayakDaily
