KUCHING, Aug 20: Sarawak’s digital transformation initiatives are projected to contribute 20 per cent to the State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030 as the government pushes towards its ambitious goal of becoming a regional digital powerhouse.
Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) Sarawak Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the State is investing heavily in Smart Government initiatives to deliver more efficient and data-driven services.
He emphasised that digital innovation, artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, Rural Transformation Projects (RTP), and human capital development are central to achieving Sarawak’s socio-economic agenda under the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Framing AI as the next leap in advancing development, Sagah stressed the importance of leveraging AI-enabled workforce strategies to build a more competitive and future-ready Sarawak.
“AI is more than just a tool; it is a force multiplier. When integrated into workforce planning, it offers powerful advantages,” he said in his speech at the launch of the ‘AI-Driven Talent: Shaping the Future of Sarawak Workforce Development’ programme at a hotel here today.
He explained that education, reskilling, and digital transformation are critical enablers for Sarawak’s future, with AI-powered tools helping to personalise training pathways, accelerate skill-building, and boost productivity across industries from agriculture to aerospace.
Sagah urged industry leaders, educators, and policymakers to align their efforts with PCDS 2030, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive growth through rural transformation and ensuring equal access to opportunities for communities across the State.
“Together, we can shape a workforce that will not only thrive in the age of AI, but define it,” he asserted.
Sharing his vision for 2030, Sagah expressed his hope for Sarawak to be known as a land of innovation, prosperity, and shared opportunity.
“A State where no one is left behind, where technology serves people, and where our people shape the future, not the other way around,” he added.
The event was organised in partnership with KCOM Academy and Glocoach, with support from Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC). — DayakDaily
