KUCHING, June 21: The Sarawak government’s approach to the ‘Muraqabah’ (mindfulness) concept helps drive sustainable development with nature while preserving a harmonious environment in the State.

In pointing this out, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that one of the concepts in Islam, Muraqabah or mindfulness, is a state of being conscious or aware of what is happening.

For example, he said that the world now is facing climate change as a result of an approach that is not mindful.

“Thank God, this Muraqabah concept has helped the Sarawak government to focus on development while preserving the environment.

“This made Sarawak known to the world for its policy in balancing nature and development,” he said when officiating Al-Muttaqin Mosque in Sarikei, streamed live via the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) Facebook page today.

He said the Muraqabah concept also became the guideline for the Sarawak government in providing beneficial services to the people regardless of their religious background.

According to him, as a Muslim, for those who understand the spirit of Muraqabah, it is the responsibility of Muslims to help each other, including non-Muslims.

“This is the concept that we are using, and that is why we formed Unit for Other Religions (Unifor). We are not only helping the Muslims but also the non-Muslims so that they too are responsible for preserving the harmonious environment in Malaysia,” he said. — DayakDaily
