KUCHING, Sept 11: The Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) has called for an urgent need to expand and upgrade the cargo terminals and logistics facilities in Kuching and Miri.
According to MOTS in a statement, its minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, highlighted the matter during a courtesy visit by the Malaysia Aviation Commission (Mavcom) led by its chairman, Datuk Sri Saripuddin Kassim, together with the secretary-general of the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, Dato Jana Santhiran, at his office in Baitulmakmur today.
He said proper air cargo terminal facilities are essential for efficient air logistics and cost-effective air freight services.
He also said that with the growth of e-commerce, especially online business around the region, air logistic operations must be efficient and vital in supporting various economic activities in Sarawak.
Other matters discussed during the courtesy visit involve airfares, especially during festive seasons and school holidays, and international air connectivity to Sarawak.
Apart from that, both parties also deliberated on upgrading Kuching International Airport facilities, especially the international departure lounge and extension of the Miri Airport terminal, including existing facilities. — DayakDaily
