KUCHING, Sept 30: The Sarawak government has decided to set up a new tribunal to handle strata management disputes between house buyers and developers, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said this would be a separate body from the existing Housing Purchasers’ Claims Tribunal, dealing particularly with strata-titled properties.

“In case of disputes between buyers and developers, the government has agreed to set up what we will call the Strata Tribunal that will make strata management smoother.

“Because now we have an avenue for you to settle disputes particularly in terms of arbitration between buyers and sellers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari also said that the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) would be extended to house buyers with loans from commercial banks.

Rather than loaning directly with Mutiara Mortgage and Credit Sdn Bhd, he said the assistance would provide assistance up to RM10,000 to B40 and M40 individuals by month.

“The State government has decided that for those who already have loans from commercial banks, we will give them assistance of RM200 a month over 48 months to repay their housing loan,” he said when officiating at the 2022 Sheda Property Expo opening ceremony at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

Also present at the event were Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government permanent-secretary Datu Antonio Kahti Galis, Sarawak Housing and Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) president Augustine Wong, and Sheda Property Expo organising chairman Ir John Yong Lock Ping. — DayakDaily
