KUCHING, Feb 27: If the Public Works Department (JKR) of Sarawak can successfully implement projects worth RM50 million and below, the Sarawak government will request Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to transfer all projects of this scale to be managed by JKR Sarawak.

Deputy Sarawak Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this during a working visit to the Sarawak Farmers’ Association building project site in Muara Tuang Land District, Kota Samarahan today.

“If we perform our duties well this year, we will be able to move forward and request that all projects carried out in Sarawak be handed over to JKR to manage.

“This is a requirement from the perspective of the State of Sarawak so that federally-approved projects can be carried out without the need for multiple decision-making levels,” he said.

At the same time, Uggah requested JKR Sarawak to assess its ability to improve project implementation in light of the Federal government’s decision to hand over project implementation under RM50 million to Sarawak.

“We hope that the State JKR, from the headquarters to the divisional levels, will assess their capabilities in terms of existing officers and what additions are required to ensure that the tasks assigned to JKR are successfully completed,” he said. — DayakDaily
