S’wak, S’pore seal key agreements to boost regional green power supply, expand healthcare in State

KUCHING, Oct 18: Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong met with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the latter’s visit to Singapore, where they discussed avenues to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, and energy.

In a LinkedIn post, Gan said that the visit, which marked a new chapter in Singapore-Sarawak relations, was punctuated by the signing of two key collaboration agreements.

The first agreement involves Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd, which has received the Energy Market Authority’s (EMA) conditional approval to partner with Sarawak Energy Berhad to import 1 gigawatt (GW) of low-carbon electricity from Sarawak.

The signing of this agreement was also witnessed in Kuala Lumpur by Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. and Singapore’s Minister in charge of Energy, Science, and Technology, Dr Tan See Leng.

The second agreement formalises a partnership between Singapore-headquartered HMI Medical and Sarawak-based developer Ibraco Berhad. Under the deal, HMI Medical will develop a 300-bed hospital in Sarawak, further expanding healthcare infrastructure in the State.
