KUCHING, April 1: Sarawak recorded two Covid-19 fatalities and 238 new cases today with Bintulu seeing a spike of 95 cases.
Sibu had the second highest daily figure with 51 cases followed by Miri (28), Kuching (22), Beluru (17), Julau (8), Serian (6), Meradong (4), Tatau (3), Sebauh (2) as well as Kanowit and Sri Aman with one each.
The State’s tally of positive cases now stands at 16,628 with 110 fatalities.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, disclosed that the 109th fatality or Case 9,688 involved a 68-year-old man who was admitted to Sibu Hospital after suffering from fever, cough, loss of appetite and breathing difficulty.
His rT-PCR test returned positive on March 28. The health condition of the man who was comorbid with hypertension, diabetes, stroke and kidney failure deteriorated and he passed away on March 31.
The 110th fatality or Case 11,790 involved a 60-year-old man who was warded in Bintulu Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 on March 10. He also suffered from breathing difficulty.
The health condition of the deceased who was comorbid with hypertension and diabetes deteriorated and he passed away on March 31.
Of the 238 new cases, SDMC reported that 24 cases were symptomatic while 177 cases were those undergoing quarantine at designated facilities, out of which 176 have been identified as close contacts to positive cases.
There is also one imported case who had returned from Saudi Arabia.
Twenty-one cases were linked to active clusters and all of them were asymptomatic.
In Bintulu, five of the total 95 cases detected were linked to the Jalan Tanjung Kidurong Cluster.
In Sibu, nine cases were added to the Bulatan Aman Cluster, while the Jalan Sanyan Cluster and Tanjung Genting Cluster picked up one case each.
In Miri, the Jalan Gridbid Cluster and Jalan Kingsway Cluster also added one case each while Meradong also picked up one new case linked to the Tanjung Genting Cluster.
Currently, there are 36 active clusters in Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Sarawak also reported 434 recoveries with 235 patients discharged from the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Semuja, 68 from Sibu Hospital, 37 from Miri Hospital, 29 from Sarikei Hospital, 19 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), 13 from Bintulu Hospital, 11 from PKRC Serian, 10 from PKRC Betong, nine from PKRC Kapit, and one each from PKRC Sri Aman, PKRC Mukah and PKRC Lawas.
Thus, the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak has increased to 13,827 or 83.15 per cent of total positive cases so far. — DayakDaily
