KUCHING, July 18: The police in the State have received five reports of sexual harassment and rape from e-hailing customers from 2021 to June this year.
According to a news report by TVS, Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said four of the cases happened in Miri and one in Kuching, involving drivers from the same e-hailing company.
“The first happened on Dec 3, 2021, in Lutong Miri. The suspect was arrested and is facing trial,” he said.
For the second and third cases reported in 2022 in Lutong, he said police investigations found that it was committed by the same individual still on trial.
As for the fourth case, he said it happened in Batu Kawa, Kuching, on Oct 20, 2022.
The fifth case occurred on June 14 in Lutong, and the suspect’s trial was scheduled to take place today (July 18).
When asked about measures have been taken to prevent these incidents, he advised victims to immediately file a police report if they have experienced such cases. — DayakDaily
