KUCHING, Nov 6: Sarawak requires 500 experts in engineering, mathematics, and computer science, including software engineering, to realise Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this will help produce more skilled workers to help the State government to turn Sarawak to achieve a developed State status by 2030.
āWith a highly trained and skilled workforce, Sarawak will have human resources that can drive the State’s economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development,ā he said during Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) 27th Convocation Ceremony held at Detar Putra in Samarahan today.
Abang Johari said, with full autonomy in the field of education, Sarawak will also be able to coordinate education with local needs, plan innovative programmes, and provide wider opportunities for the growth of knowledge for Sarawak youth.
He highlighted that the focus on first-class human capital development starts at the initial level of schooling.
āAccordingly, in this regard, the Sarawak government is discussing with the central government to obtain full autonomy in the field of education.
āI believe that a stable education policy and good facilities can improve the educational performance of children in this State,ā he said.
On Oct 26, the federal government has, in principle, agreed to the devolution of power in critical areas of education in Sarawak. ā DayakDaily
