KUCHING, Feb 27: To ensure its long-term financial stability, the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) will enhance its property management and explore new sectors capable of generating sustainable income.
This was said by LAKMNS newly appointed chief executive officer, Datu Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir, during a courtesy call to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Kompleks Satria Pertiwi here today.
“We discussed proposals to strengthen property management and explore new areas that can generate sustainable income for financial stability, while also updating on current developments and the strategic direction of LAKMNS,” he said in a news report by the Malaysian Information Department.
The courtesy call was to update the Premier on the board’s existing activities, including mosque management, cemetery land administration, and related assets.
In addition to offering views and advice on strengthening the board’s financial foundation and ensuring institutional sustainability, Abang Johari also suggested that the board collaborate with several strategic entities in the State to optimise resources and expertise in generating continuous revenue.
The board is exploring the potential of generating green revenue through green economy and sustainable energy initiatives aligned with Sarawak’s sustainable development policies.
Abdul Hadi also explained that the role of mosques is not confined solely to religious functions, but also serves as a welfare institution and a catalyst for the economic development of the Muslim community. — DayakDaily
