KUCHING, Aug 24: The Sarawak Metropolitan Food Cluster (SMFC) Consortium showcased its flagship Metropolitan Food Cluster (MFC) Opar project, featuring state-of-the-art SMART farming and processing technologies, at the fifth edition of the Sarawak Agrofest (SAF).

According to a press release, the MFC Opar aims to introduce a Dutch-Sarawak modern integrated food cluster that supports the Sarawak government’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 by combining artificial intelligence (AI)-powered greenhouses, circular economy principles, and advanced supply chain systems to contribute to Sarawak’s aspirations as a net food exporter by 2030.

“SMFC’s involvement in the Sarawak Agrofest is not merely to showcase our (MFC Opar) project and the latest technologies within the ecosystem, but to also demonstrate how integrated systems of global technology and local talents and perspectives can transform agriculture into a high-value, future-ready industry,” said SMFC.

MFC Opar, located in Lundu, spans approximately 84 hectares. It powers an integrated ecosystem that includes AI-powered greenhouse farming, sustainable animal feed processing, agro-logistics integration, as well as training and agro-tourism.

These initiatives are designed to reduce reliance on importing produce, boost domestic supply, create skilled jobs, and enable Sarawak to export produce to other ASEAN markets.
