KUCHING, Sept 20: The Sarawak government is looking to establish shared laboratories (common labs) to ensure that students from schools that don’t have their own laboratories can have access to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
According to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, there are still schools that don’t have their own laboratories, causing students to depend on memorising textbooks.
He emphasised that basic STEM education must be established during the earlier stages of education if the State aims to produce skilled STEM-based talents.
“Through this, students will be able to get hands-on experience in STEM education,” he said during the officiation ceremony of the Pesta Benak Sri Aman in Simanggang today, which was streamed live with the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
In June 2024, Abang Johari stated that the Sarawak government would identify schools across the region lacking a science laboratory.
This enables them to lead in financing the construction of essential facilities that enhance STEM education among children. — DayakDaily
