S’wak govt to collaborate with Australia’s University of the Sunshine Coast in forestry management

KUCHING, Aug 16: The Sarawak government will collaborate with the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia (UniSC) in exchanging technical information, joint cooperative studies and research, and knowledge and technology transfer in forestry management.

According to a media release, this was agreed upon through the signing and exchange of a Letter of Intent (LOI) between the Sarawak government, which was represented by Forestry Department Sarawak (FDS) director Datu Hamdem Mohamad, and UniSC Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Helen Bartlett.

The signing ceremony was held in Brisbane, Australia, and witnessed by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

The signing ceremony signifies a commitment to commence a discussion and reach an understanding of exploring cooperation and collaboration with UniSC for purposes including data collection, discussion, and analysis for formulation, development, or implementation of any matters relating to forestry.

Prior to the signing of the LOI, the delegation was briefed with research presentations from four lecturers and researchers of UniSC and Forest Research Institute on the topics including Breeding and Silviculture to Improve Plantation Productivity and Value and Pest Management in Plantation Forests in Borneo. — DayakDaily
