KUCHING, July 1: PETRONAS and the Sarawak government commemorated 47 local vendors for their contribution and services in Sarawak’s oil and gas (O&G) industry.
The celebration was made meaningful by the presentation of a commemoration plaque from PETRONAS vice president of group procurement Rashidah Alias, at the 3rd Sarawak Vendor Commemoration ceremony held in the Hilton Hotel today.
The event was witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, and PETRONAS vice president of Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) Datuk Ir Bacho Pilong.
Speaking at the ceremony, Abang Johari called for the vendors to continue upgrading their skills, including identifying new areas to participate in the oil industry in Malaysia.
He also expressed his gratitude to PETRONAS for contributing to the industry players and enabling them to be active in various sectors related to the oil and gas industry.
Meanwhile, Bacho encouraged all parties to co-create and nurture a robust Oil and Gas Services and Equipment (OGSE) ecosystem.
He said over the past 50 years, PETRONAS has cultivated strong partnerships with the Sarawak Government, petroleum arrangement contractors (PACs), and local Oil and Gas Services and Equipment (OGSE) vendors to fortify Sarawak’s oil and gas ecosystem.
Apart from that, Bacho also urged local OGSE vendors to embrace sustainability in their operations and align with PETRONAS’ vision towards Net Zero Carbon Emissions in 2050.
“It is timely for us to work together by leveraging on our collective strengths, expertise, and resources to build a resilient ecosystem and to drive the industry forward and achieve a sustainable future in a just and responsible manner,” he added.
To date, 72 Sarawak vendors have been commemorated by PETRONAS as part of its continuous efforts to support the local service providers in Sarawak.
