S’wak govt commits RM50 mln capital injection to Sarawak Microelectronics Design Semiconductor

KUCHING, Nov 30: The Sarawak government has committed RM50 million in capital injection to Sarawak Microelectronics Design (SMD) Semiconductor Sdn Bhd.

According to a news report from the Public Information Department Malaysia Sarawak today, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the capital injection is expected to boost the company’s growth and development in the semiconductor industry.

He said this when officiating at SMD’s annual dinner, which was held at a local hotel last night (Nov 29).

He added that additional sums will also be invested in the industry depending on its performance, returns, and potential.

SMD is a wholly owned company of the Sarawak government, established as the main research and development (R&D) centre for a global semiconductor company.

The establishment supports positioning Sarawak as a primary destination for the semiconductor industry and a solution provider for semiconductor technology. — DayakDaily
