KUCHING, Sept 6: The Sarawak government has allocated RM100 million to upgrade healthcare staff quarters throughout the region, especially in rural areas.
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the allocation is a temporary loan to the Federal government until it is reimbursed.
“The initiative is aimed at ensuring doctors and nurses working in rural clinics have comfortable living accommodations in addition to well-equipped clinic facilities.
“The Deputy Minister of Health (Dato Lukanisman Awang Sauni) informed me that while clinics have been built in rural areas, healthcare workers still need suitable housing.
“Therefore, we agreed to loan RM100 million this year to the medical centres for the construction of these quarters,” he said.
He added that the initiative will continue as long as the government is able to provide the best facilities for rural communities. — DayakDaily
