S’wak Governor and wife attend London events, promoting cultural heritage and supporting S’wakian students

KUCHING, May 9: Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Sri Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib attended two distinct events in London on May 7.

According to a media release, Raghad was present to lend support for London Craft Week 2023 at the Malaysia Embassy in London which featured Malaysia’s participation under the patronage of Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

The Sarawak delegation, led by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, showcased Sarawak’s commitment to promoting its cultural heritage and reputation as a leading craft destination, as well as the region’s crafts and cultural diversity.

The primary objective was to promote Sarawak products. During the event, Her Majesty and the Premier introduced the Saratage website, developed and designed by Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) Commercial, which facilitates seamless access to Sarawak heritage and craft.

The presence of Raja Permaisuri Agong, Raghad and Sarawak’s top leaders provided talented Sarawakian artisans with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and raise awareness of Sarawak’s distinctive identity.

Meanwhile, in a separate event, Taib and Raghad attended a special dinner hosted by Yayasan Sarawak for 60 Sarawakian students pursuing their education in the United Kingdom.

Abang Johari’s wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar, and State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and his wife Datin Amar Baduyah Bujang were among the dignataries present. — DayakDaily
